Kym Hann has trained his tenth winner for the season which places his four winners ahead of any other Bendigo trainer for the 2014/15 season, courtesy of Black Stardom scoring at Yarra Valley on Monday.
Second-up for the new stable having previously been in the care of Lisa Enright, the son of Japanese stallion Painted Black ran an eye-catching closing race at Kerang on Boxing Day – his first run in almost eight months.
Rising to the 1500 metres the six-year-old was granted a charmed run by John Keating, peeling off the fence in the straight and scoring a comfortable two length win.
Previously raced in New Zealand, Monday’s victory was his first on Australian soil at his fifth attempt. A multiple winner at Riverton in his homeland, including a victory over 2147 metres, history would suggest the gelding will appreciate further distances.
The win came after a disappointing twelfth at Flemington with stablemate Swing With Me on Saturday. Ridden by Glen Boss, the mare dropped out sharply with stewards to follow-up with Hann in coming days, as a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
