Kym Hann

It was a love of horses which steered the young and energetic Kym Hann into race training. Hann was involved with horses from an early age. His mum was into recreational horses, while Kym participated in pony club and showing.

His career in the industry kick started when he linked up with veteran trainer, Ross Lyons in Port Lincoln before heading to the Snowden Racing team in Sydney where he was lucky to work with the likes of Skilled and Drumbeats. Hann then returned to work with Ross Lyons in Bendigo for 6 months before his retirement. It was then, Lyons encouraged Hann into setting up his own training operation.

Hann is ever so grateful to the veteran trainer for all the support, advice and guidance he has provided him along the way. He states, “he has taught me just about everything I know”.

Hann has set up his training operation on 3 hectares in Bendigo – a venue perfectly situated to access Victorian racetracks. With 13 horses currently in work Hann is looking to expand his team. The facilities are impressive and ideally situated at the Bendigo Jockey Club.

Hann’s strike rate is equally impressive, claiming the title of 2014 ‘Strike Rate Trainer of the Year’ – at just 26 years of age. For a young guy who doesn’t have a racing lineage, Hann is making his mark on the track!
